If you're a dependent of someone else, you're right, you need to be 0 exemptions. But if you have 0 on your W-4 but aren't a dependent, you would claim yourself on your actual return, since you would get an exemption for yourself.

If you got papers from the IRS, then you probably were claimed as a dependent. You can't fix it online. Don't just refile - that would really mess things up! You'd need to file a 1040-x amended return. You'll need the numbers from your 2005 return to do the 1040-X. If you can't find your copy, if H&R did it last year their office should have a copy, or you can get a transcript from the IRS but that will take a few weeks.

Feel free to email me if you have additional questions.

you will possibly desire to seek advice from a tax preparer or the guy who did your taxes. you're suited which you're actually not self employed and wouldn't have been given a 1099. you could not report as an worker until you have a W-2. it is the reason you will possibly desire to seek advice from somebody who can try this for you. Your ex-company would be penalized for not deducting taxes out of your verify.

Go to H&R Block and they will amend your return for free (at least they should).
