Old stereotypes, however, I felt that the British were much more well known for bad teeth than superior intellect, strange parallel, toothless, bad teeth. It is all stupid prejudice, know the person, form an opinion, forget all that other crap.

Perhaps it's because the British accent may be associated with a "history" (read that as "several more of, *only* because of longer time") arts and literature, whereas a Southern accent has less "history". Or perhaps it has to do with the fact that the British looked down on the Scots-Irish, and the Southern accent mostly derives from Scots-Irish languages.

It just a misconception people have out of ignorance. But, it is still a reality in life, regardless of their intellectual ability to know different. I have a very heavy "Southern Draw" it even bothers me when I hear a recording of my voice, not as noticeable in normal conversation. But, I have 4 Degrees; 1 AAS and 3 BAS if I remember correct, Ha! AND I have a College Transcript with a Total of over 180 Hours of various college level studies and I did not mention the Colleges where I took 1 or 2 courses. True my spelling not always reflect this. LOL! But, in my intelligence I learned to respect people for their intelligence (We all learn what we want to learn, not what some Dork want us to believe). So, it only Dumb, uneducated people that do believe what you ask. They have to demean others to make themselves look smart to others dumb enough to believe them.

Good question. There are smart Brits and dumb Southerners. Apparently people ran into alot of each and thats how it started. Not all Brits are smart and not all Southerners are dumb. An accent doesn't define you, not always.

LOL, i like this question. My husband and his family are all from the south and speak with a southern twang. I'm curious to see what people say. I think...my OPINION is that the british just sound well educated. The southern accent is spoken with such poor grammar. Doesn't mean they are dumb.....just speak w/poor grammar. MY HUSBAND does....but then so do i sometimes!! LOL

human beings are morons, they have not have been given any geographical expertise! there isn't any such difficulty as a British accessory - in any different case it may a technique or the different be a mix of English, Scottish and Welsh accents. What they provide the impact of being to love is an English accessory. not a British one.

I am one of those people. The British accent is sharp and clear, but the southern accent sounds sloppy and dull

I know for a fact that there are very intillectual people in the south. One of my friends from Florida ( if he had presued) would be very successfull. He graduated top of his class, and had many many scholorships.
He just decided to run some one over back up and do it two more times.
Funny, but not stupid.

because that is how those groups tend to be portrayed in popular culture. It feeds into the stereotype that Brits are brainy and Southerners are toothless rednecks. It is as unfair a characterization as any other kind of stereotype.
