I feel sorry for the people that are 16, not that smoking is good for you generally, but it also puts pressure on shop keepers to avoid angry *** dependent teenagers

I think you will find that the Government propose (it has to be approved by Parliament) that the minimum age for buying cigarettes be raised to 18 not the minumum age for actually smoking. Daft in it!

I think its wrong and a waste of time.

It would be MUCH more effective for them to teach kids at around the age of 10 about what smoking does, maybe disecting a lung of a smoker in science (well, the teacher anyway!), educating them in the science side rather than just turning round after they've all tried it and saying "smokings bad". TV adverts are pretty useless as they aren't 'real' or don't seem it. They need to see some really compelling evidence to turn them against it. Peer pressure at school is the major culprit for kids who smoke.

If i had seen or known what it did I would never have tried it when i as 13!

Once again its just gonna make stuff worse. Works in short term but is teling ppl what to do.

DONT take LSD or DOPE or KETAMINE or COCANE cos its bad for you. ppl still do. I dont think ppl should take cocane but i have friends who do. I dont agree but im not judging. If they turned into a junkie and started stealing i would not really wanna be their friend.

I have a brain. I use it. I tried LSD, had great time and watched clouds turn into chariots in the sky in the beutiful hills in north scotland, UK (cloony dam near Fort William to be precise). But its was scary as well. Iv worked out i like my reality to be solid. Iv helped ppl decide not to take it by giving unbiast opinion. Ill never take it again.

Im 23 by the way so not some old fart. I love smokin weed and drinkin alchahol. Im happy with how this makes me feel when i ingest or inhale these substances. Tobbacco has a grip on me. I ONLY smoke tobbacco when i have weed but still get some cravings.

Smoking looks cool (iv never known anyone who tried it otherwise, dont lie) but bloody well isnt. We get fed crap tobbacco anyway. Its a drug just like cannabis. Smoke a big pipe of pure tobaco and youll see. (I have, i felt REEEEAAAL sick, another lesson i learned). If some little idiot decides to start then they will still get a hold of it.

Our current commercial driven economy drives us to buy addictive things. If we ween tobbaco out then there are still things like MSG (a gluton agent that makes food sticky and tasty and is addictive, or something to that effect) or E numbers (sweetners and additives like aspartime which has traces of dangerous chemicals in it) or some horrible stuff they put in your McDonalds and Burger King etc.

Its all addictive. If you dont believe and arnt willing to find a clearer better version of facts than i can give..... then piss off and be the sheep you are.

i think it is a good idea. But it wont make a tiny difference. I go to collage and nearly everyday get asked by 13/14/15 year olds to buy them fags with their lunch money. Raising the age wont do a thing people will still think its "cool" to smoke

I agree that it's a good idea, it would have stopped me buying cigarettes when I was 14. I also think the age at which you can buy alcohol should be upped.

Surely, there will be less angry teenagers trying to buy tobacco now because they are clearly not 18.

With smoking it should be down to the individual. If people want to pour millions into the chancellors pockets while killing them selves that is A-OK with me. Saves them taking it from me in income tax (smokers put £6billion into the economy AFTER you take out the money it costs to treat smoking related illnesses, thats a government statistic).

What would have been more useful than raising the age of smoking would have been the introduction of IQ tests for anyone wanting to drive, drink, or have children.

i think its a very good idea maybe not for shop keepers in having to deal with angry teenagers but in the long run i would like to give up( smoking killed my mum) you see and there are so many harm full substances in cigarettes that the teenagers wouldn't believe and maybe they should show them in schools and give them knowledge about it as much as they give the knowledge about sex education

smoking kills more people than anything else ,this is a legalised drug . the government shoud stop the making of ciggarettes and hand everyone a copy of ALLEN CARRS eay way to stop smoking . odviously you would have a black market but this would be a better idea than legalising a drug that kills more people than anything else yearly.

or even promote this book and have the government give a free copy of this to every smoker you would see a major difference in society rather than giving bullshit cures that dont work and are the oposite of the actual reason people smoke .

Yes, and the age of consenting to sex to 18, too!
And by the way, shouldn't we rather bring back some laws, like causing affray, for ****** dependent teenagers? It's only because they're allowed to get away with their behaviour that they feel they can behave in any way they like.

I think it's a good idea. I always thought 16 was too young. When you are 16, you can still be a school kid, and I always thought that a school kid smoking didn't look good, even though they seem to think they look cool.
