Firstly, DON'T BUY FROM A PUPPY SHOP! The dogs there are usually very sickly, and since many are inbred, they die at abnormally young ages. They are very expensive and usually not loving and social. Go to your city's ASPCA or the pound and see if they have any of the particular varieties of dog that you are looking for. If you have kids, dalmatians, poodles, cocker spaniels, pit bulls, and rottweilers are NOT good choices, as they have very short tempers. The best overall type of dog, in many people's opinion are Golden Retrievers and Labradors. You can help a dog that would otherwise be put to sleep! Adoption from the pound/ASPCA is also relatively inexpensive, and they even give the dogs all of their vaccinations beforehand.

Hope I could help! Good luck to finding a lifelong pal!

If it is a reputable breeder, then all of their puppies should be "good" dogs as in they will be healthy. If it the breed you are concerned about, search those two breeds to read about their personalities and needs to see if they match what you want. On two occasions, I picked the runt of the litter from my breeders, and they turned out to be wonderful dogs. Try the following website for breed information.

The best dogs are at the pound, ASPCA, or humane society. Adopt a dog, and save a life.
