Find out where they're coming in, then put down a strip of copper tape. Slugs and snails have some sort of reaction to the copper and won't cross the line.

Slugs like damp and cold areas.

Find out how they are getting into your kitchen. Are there any small holes in the walls, or are they sliding under the door? Is there ivy on the outside walls of the house?

When you have located the entry point sprinkle some household salt and outside on the path and surrounding areas. Its the only quick and cheap solution.
