Many computers have built in wi-fi now. If your near a wireless router it will pick up a connection, then you simply connect to it. Some have password protection because theyre private etc but many new hotspots let people connect for free or for a small charge.
Get a network card for your laptop if you don't have a modern/expensive laptop.

If your laptop has built in wireless internet then all you need to do is load up your laptop and see of there are any public access conmnections within the local area.
If you don't have in built wireless buy a wireless PCI card and then follow the same steps as what are mentioned above.

You can use hot spots normally internet cafes motorways services or search for insecure wireless neteworks. I use a T mobile data card £30 a month and as long as you can get a phone signal you are connected in the city's you get a far faster connection

If you are in an Internet "hotspot", often supplied by Internat Cafes (actual coffee shops w/Internet) you can use the proper wireless technology (Wi-Fi, I think). Sometimes you can do this without actually entering the business.

Get a wireless PCMCIA card from Verizon or Sprint. It works like a cell phone contract. And you can connect to the internet wherever your cell phone works!
