In 1980 the Chargers had Home field advantage they one their first game against Buffalo, only to loose the Division Championship the following week to i believe Okland.

Homefield advantage throughout the playoffs? I don't believe that they ever have.
In 1994, they were the 2nd seed in the AFC. In 2004, they were the 4th seed.
