When you say what kind do you mean, the memory size? Because if thats what you mean and you want a lot of storage room, get a 1 GB. A 1 GB flash drive usually can cost anywhere from $20-$50. Depends where you get it and if it's on sale or not.

I researched for the fastest USB flash drive I could find from a reputable company and bought the Patriot Xtreme. It reads and writes much faster than some flash drives so that you can actually store stand alone applications on the flash drive and run them from the flash drive with no noticeable delays. I paid $35 after rebate for the 2 GB Patriot Xport XT and I really like the small soft rubberized case. It has a place to store the cap right on the drive pendant.

Looks like the Sandisk is the brand, its what I use. Some of the other brands you have to be or have a local administrator install the driver, Windows will try to go out and install one. Not a big deal at home, but if you have to take it to work and they have the systems locked down with no local admins, etc. The Sandisk will just be detected and work.

Consider this a 4GB Staples Cruzer U3 drive, or Mega Car 16GB flash drive. Look on the sources for prices.

san disk and kingston are always good brands to stick with when it comes to memory, as far as cost, it depends on how much storage you want. 1gb is standard, (holding approx. 400 pictures, or 250 songs, or thousands of documents) and will run you roughly $30

I have a SanDisk Cruzer micro that I use every day. It has the U3 sync program, which thus far, has worked very reliably.
It comes in a 4 gig package if that is large enough for your needs....
Here is the link for it at compUSA: http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?pfp=SEARCH&Ntt=sandisk&N=0&Dx=mode+matchall&Nty=1&D=sandisk&Ntk=All&product_code=338545&Pn=Cruzer_Micro_Flash_Drive
