Well the basic philosophy is that everything has an opposite. From Yang being the Sun and Yin being it's opposite the Moon and also representing the male/Yang and female/Yin forces. However the philosophy gets really deep. The Chinese believe that Yin and Yang represent everything in the universe and use it to explain political movements as well as planetary ones. So to that extent I'm not convinced.
All in all, I think it's a beautiful way of explaining the weight of one action against the weight of another.

Yin and Yang is a descriptive balance of the forces that surround us. For every action there is a reaction. There is always an opposite and if you want to live in harmony then you do the best you can to balance them out. You can't enjoy true happiness unless you have experienced loss. Then you carry those feelings with you which is when there is always a dot of the opposite color in each the yin and yang.

Very cool!
It not only lends perspective to the world, but it allows us to use its concepts to alter our world, too!
Examples:
Cooking (Chinese, fusion, etc.)
Martial Arts (Karate/Tae kwon Do vs. Aikido/Kung Fu (some forms).
Motorcycling (I can distinctly feel subtle differences between my two motorcycles and the effect upon my consciousness/disposition when I ride them)
Again, VERY cool!
