I called Netflix and the woman said YES, you can buy one to send to them, as long as it doesn't have a Wal-Mart or other store STAMP on the movie. She said make sure you include your address so you'll get credit for it.
It's good to go to the source.

This is similar to what happened to me. Netflix lost my returned movie. I notified Netflix that I had returned it (along with two other movies). I hope Netflix's customer service has improved by now, but I was never able to convince Netflix that THEY lost the movie, not me. As a consequence, they would only send me 2 movies at a time instead of the three movies I was supposed to get. As a result, I terminated my account with Netflix. What Netflix is SUPPOSED to do is just write off the lost movie. If you report too many movies "lost", then they will suspect you're keeping them and not give you credit for the return. Which makes sense, except this was not the case with me. I had been ordering and returning movies for over 6 months without any problem. Here you say you lost it, but it still comes to the same thing - - they should just write-off that the movie was lost and give you credit for the return.

No, they know! Go back and read your terms and conditions. You will need to buy the movie, I just hope that for your sake it is not a New Release!! You can offer to replace it, but they will charge you the price of the replacement of the movie, at its original price.
Good Luck!! I know it sucks!! Or, you could just hold out returning it, until you find it?? That will just cost you $20 a month!!
