Gerald Ford was one of 42 men Ever to hold that office in the history of the US. show a little respect. Ford Pardoned Nixon not because it was the just thing to do, but because it would help the country move on and heal. And it worked. The US was able to move past Watergate.

And to the person who said Nixon wouldn't' have been impeached? Why don't you pick up a history textbook sometime? Articles of impeachment had been introduced, And Nixon Resigned once his aides told him that there were enough votes to remove him from office, both in the House and Senate. He would have been impeached and Removed from office, and it would not have been a political impeachment that had no basis in the truth like Clinton's.

He did some good things too. Arms limitations treaty with the Soviets, reduced inflation, WIC program to provide nutrition for poor mothers and their babies, Helsinki Accords to support freedom of expression in Soviet countries. Basically had an open, honest administration which was something the people needed. Imagine how cynical we'd be about politics now if Ford hadn't brought respect back to the office of the president (for a while at least).

Every single elected leader of a country... and I don't care which one, breaks the law in some way while in office. President Ford did indeed pardon a criminal. But, the offense was an American offense, so it's really none of your business.

But - he was still the president, even if only for a short time. After the Nixon Watergate debacle, Ford restored confidence to the presidency at a time when it was desperately needed. He was a man of the people, a plain-spoken, common man who through a series of circumstances wound up being president. Whether you disagreed with his policies or agreed with them, you should still thank God he was president at that time. He was the right man in the right place at the right time and helped restore our sense of national dignity and pride.

Ford was elected by the people into his original office, and Nixon chose him to be Vice-President when the original one resigned. When Nixon resigned, he became president. He pardoned Nixon in an act of compassion. And as other people have said, the man is dead. It is proper to show respect.
