In the past, men have put it into women's heads that they must do or not do certain things while menstruating. These things are mostly due to fear. You've heard it said, I'm sure, "Never trust something that can bleed for 7 days and not die." That's a man's fear right there.
And please do not use tampons! They are so dangerous and cause so many vaginal problems. If you don't like pads use an item like "Instead" or the Diva cup, the Moon cup or the Keeper cup.

i have found that going to the gym while on my period helped to lose more weight. but some people dont because they have cramps or feel bad while on theirs. but i see no problem why you shouldnt be able to

Of course you can, just take some extra pads on tampoons with you in case you need them. Sit on a towel, some times you sweat more.

Yeah, just be sure to have a good tampon. Exercise helps a lot with cramps as well, so I say it would be an excellent idea =]
