540 type motors are the standard type that comes with model car kits such as tamiya and kyosho, if your a beginner then I would stay with this motor until you get used to controlling the car,do you race at a club or just mess around in the park?, if you race at a club or thinking about doing so then many clubs have a limit to the turns of motor to make completion fair most clubs have a 19T-27T limit,19T being modified and 27T being stock.

If you are looking for a motor with a little more punch then look tamiya's 540 sport motor,but if you do choose to go for a higher turn motor then you will need to get a electric speed controller that will be able to Handel the motor,if this is not done then you'll end up with a burnt out motor and speed controller.
