My doctor told me that he found calcium on the placenta at my last ultra sound, and I wanted to know what that means.. Will I go into labour early?, Is the baby getting what it needs?, What does it mean when he sees calcium on the placenta, I am 33 weeks pregnant

The first responder is right. You should have asked the Dr while you were in the office instead of waiting to ask us on line. You have to be careful with the advice and information you get from this site. I had someone claim to be a Dr and tell me to get on anti-biotics for a common cold. Something that isn't done anymore because it doesn't work and you just build up an immunity to the meds.

Your best bet is to call the Dr and ask him/her. The Dr will have the most information for you.

When i had my ultrasound done,at 20 weeks, they found a "speak" two actually on the baby's heart so they sent me for another ultrasound at the hospital to have a second opinion. What they told me was it was calcium in the baby's heart which can have a concern for Down Syndrome. Which my blood work came back very good so they told me there was nothing to worry about. My doctor didn't seem too worried about it in the first place because like they told me at the hospital it's very common to find calcium "speaks". This might be why your doctor didn't seem too concerned about it. Also it could be the kind of insurance you have, sometimes they treat medicaid patience differently because the insurance doesn't want to pay for the second ultrasound, which is expensive! Still you should speak up to your doctor about this just to ease your concern. From experience the younger you are the lease there is to be any concern, which may be another reason why they didn't treat it to be a big deal. Otherwise i wouldn't worry about going into early labor and as long as you carry until or after 37 weeks the baby should be very healthy. Keep your head up and remember to speak to your doctor if your still worried.

Doctors will use it an excuse to induce you early, however it is perfectly normal in most cases. And even if your placenta is aging (which normally starts a little later) more than 50% of your placenta would have to be effected before your baby would be better off out than in.

That is of course assuming that the ultrasound is correct in the first place, which it isn't always --it is all a matter of interpretation of the images.

nothing, its normal. docs have often tried to use calcium deposits on placentas to say the baby is over due and the placenta was starting to not work. its bull. it does not mean the placenta is aged. its a normal thing, a sign that the placenta is maturing.

It means the placenta is aging and your doctor will monitor that to make sure the baby is growing properly.

The placenta may be starting to deteriorate.

you need to talk to your doctor. certain conditions can be really simple to deal with or really hard to cope with it really depends on how bad it is. You need to sit down with him and ask him these questions! here is a website! good luck and congrats on baby!!! =)
