When I was a kid growing up in New Jersey, USA, we celebrated mischief night.....It was a tradition....we just toilet papered peoples cars and trees, never threw eggs....here in the states the egg throwing got so out of hand and somewhat dangerous, that in some states it is a $25.00 an egg fine, so the night before Halloween here has sort of faded out....Was alot of fun while it lasted, but now that I am grown, the idea of toilet paper wads all over my yard or car doesn't thrill me, but that is so innocent compared to what kids are capeable of today.....ps, we used to get Pillow Cases full of candy, not just a little pumkin, boy have times sure changed......Good Question, and really cool your all the way over in England!!!

Actually you are getting your dates mixed up not to mention cultures. Mischief night is in Yorkshire the night before Bonfire night the 4th November, and as far as i know it's a national thing or used to be. You are getting it confused with the American Halloween which as become commonplace in the UK now. Happy new year.

Mischief Night was a big thing in New Jersey and the east coast. Nowadays that kind of "mischief" is called "vandalism" in the US, subject to finds and stays in juvie hall.

I've never heard it called Mischief night before. I have heard it called Devil's Night. In New England, it's called Cabbage Night.

HECK NO!!
It's tons of fun here in Oklahoma, it's kind of an underground thing though, only the teens really talk much about it.
Usually, the mischief occurs right after school, or on the stroke of midnight here!

I'm on the east coast of the US and occasionally, some teenagers will do the toilet paper thing but not always. It's not all that common where I am anymore but was when I was a kid.
