HIM and Evanescence are BOTH...
NOT GOTH.
They don't even consider themselves goth, if I'm not mistaken. (Not that that ever stopped anyone from considering Sisters of Mercy goth...but, I digress.)

Neither one is goth. They're both neogoth. They themselves might prefer different labels, and I'm not here to begrudge whatever they want to call themselves. But they definitely don't fall into the goth category- at least not as it was originally thought of. Mind you, the band members themselves may be goths, that doesnt mean their music is.
Also, goths can be Christians. No rules against it. Look at the band Thou Shalt Not. Mind you also that music doesn't actually count as Christian music unless it can be used as a witnessing tool. Evanescence cannot be.
But why worry about all this? do you like these bands? If so why not just enjoy them?

Neither are goth, they could fit into the catagory of mallgoth though..Many goth bands are christian, The Cruxshadows are a goth band with christian undertones, but HIM, nor Evanscence are goth..
Goth bands:
Bauhaus
Sisters of Mercy
Bella Morte
The Cruxshadows
Christian Death (the name is ment in irony)
Clan of Xymox
VNV Nation
Joy Devision
KMFDM (to a point)
Gothminister (to a point)
Deathstars(to a point)
The Cure (I dont consider them Goth but many "real" members of the subculture do, so theyre worth noting)
Skinny Puppy (to a point)
Massiv In Mensch
Paralyzed Age
yelworC
Voltaire
Of course, their are many more goth bands, many more styles of goth, like Rivet-Heads, Cyber-Goths, Romantic Goths, etc
HIM, Evanscence, Marylin Manson, Slipknot, Cradle of Filth etc are many bands mistaken as Goth by "mundanes" (normal people, and people who try to look goth when they're not)
I've provided you with enough Gothic music for you to get the sound
Not to say goths cant be christian, many are..but christian does not equal goth, and goth does not equal christian

Him isn't goth. Evanescence isn't goth, they just have a...neo-psuedo-goth look. It's hard to define. anyway, yes, they are Christian. I am as well. I like goth music. Evanescence, not so much.

Evanescence started out as a christian band and then announced that they were going to "Alternative Rock" (or whatever you want to consider them now), they just did the same thing as Creed. Kinda a fast way to get into the industry, build up a profile, and get fans. Then they Announced that they are switching, getting their old fans to follow and gaining even more popularity and fame.

Yes, you are right. They are a Chritian-belief band that songs and videos are more towards goth-like imagery. They like to put more emotions in their video and their songs that are pretty good. They do not jam (well, not to me) a lot of Christian beliefs on the listening people.
They sing songs that relate to what they either been through or what they are going through.

although I'm not a fan, I've got my facts straight. HIM is not goth, The Cure is goth. Joy Division is goth. Bauhaus is goth. HIM prefers the term "love metal"

i personally don't think either are goth, they're too mainsteam but don't rule a band out just because they're christian .off topic but Black metal is widly thought to be strictly satanic but there is a christian black metal site called blastbeats. so don't judge bands by there religious standing.
