There have only been two starting quarterbacks in both college and the pros to win the championships - Joe Namath (Alabama) and Joe Montana (Notre Dame).
Kenny Stabler was not the starter in 1965 for Alabama when Alabama won the championship that year. Steve Sloan was the starter and Kenny was the back-up. In 1966 Stabler was the starter and guided the team to a perfect 11-0 record. However, Notre Dame was awarded the championship although they finished the season with a tie on their record. The 1966 undefeated Alabama team was known as the "uncrowned champions".

Best answer is not quite correct - Bernie Kosar won the 1982 college national championship with Miami and was backup to Troy Aikman for Dallas in Super Bowl XXVIII..

Three. Joe Namath (Alabama and Jets), Kenny Stabler (Alabama and Raiders), and Joe Montana (Notre Dame and 49ers).
Technically, you could add Tom Brady to that list. He sat on the bench during Michigan's National Championship (Brian Griese was the starter).

If I remember right, Grant Wistrom (DE, Seahawks) is the only player to have won both the college national championship and the superbowl.
I guess I remember wrong.
