I've had an IUD for a year now & there have been a few times when I bleed, pretty heavily at times, & it's not my period. My husband says he can feel the string sometimes, but I'm afraid maybe the IUD has moved & is causing the bleeding. Most of the time it is after sex, but not always. Is it normal to have bleeding w/ an IUD other than menstrual? I just had my yearly exam in December & the doc said it was in the right place. And my husband wants to use toys & stuff, but I'm afraid it might move the IUD also.

You can check your own strings and see if it is in place or not. What IUD do you have?? Your IUD has been in place for a year now it should be settled into your lining and not go anywhere. I have the Mirena IUD and toys have never disturbed it. If you are really concerned about the bleeding call your Dr for advice.

Get yourself back to the gynaecologist and if need be find a new one. It isn't normal for you to be having any bleeding if an IUD is in the correct position.

Good luck.

He's not going to hurt you with using toys.
He can't really feel the string unless he's abnormally large 8+inches.
An IUD works by aborting any fertilized egg that implants in your uterus. That's probably what the bleeding is from.
Relax. Enjoy your sex life.
