I dreamed of a duck lying on the family room floor at my grandma's house. My mom and grandma were there, and so was my husband and I. I was petting the duck and he felt oilily and greasy - didn't know he was dead until my husband said so. What does this mean, if anything??

duck = unexpected desire, freedom you can't get
family room = your safety zone
family = people you trust
Being told by hubby that is dead = need to be confirmed

Looks like there are some unexpected things happening in your life. Projecting duck flying could symbolize some sort of unexpected desire or it could mean there are some freedom you wish to get in reality but you can't get. It may have something to do with your family members. In your case, your hubby will be most likely in charge of everything. Not just because he is the head of the household, but also because you trust him the most. In other words, there may be stuff that you want, you have to go thru him first.

Basically, you vent all this out in dream

And I can bet the atmosphere was a bit macabre too. Hmm, strange... well, it could mean that you're being different from other people in some way and that you will only realise it when someone tells you.

I'd say that animals are usually helpless because they are not as smart as people are, so they are exposed to dangers more. I suppose you didn't ask yourself where the duck came from or why it was in the house, or if you did, it didn't matter that much. It could mean that you sometimes act without thinking too much. The fact that the duck was oily and greasy can mean trouble (as in: who knows where it's been before entering the house?).

And since you were the only one who started petting the duck, it can mean that there's something you don't know, though everybody else does. Take in mind that the duck is related to water, water referres to purity, but the duck is dirty!

You could feel the urge to protect or help those who seem helpless, but you don't find the appropriate way of helping them and your good actions can have negative consequences for you or create confusion.

I believe one thing is for sure though: there is something bad going on, things may seem bad enough in one area, but the truth is they are a lot worse. Someone my also be lying to you. I don't know what lies in your subconscious or if you are the kind of person I presumed you were, but I think this last paragraph is the most accurate of all. Be careful.

Sigmund Freud said that "dreams are the royal road to the unconscious." I just think that they are interesting.

Ducks are rather multi-talented animals that can walk, swim and fly and thus may represent your flexibility and in blending into various situations. Also, the duck may be a pun on "ducking" some issue or situation, instead of confronting it head-on. Seeing a dead duck in front of family members may mean that there is some hidden family issue that has not been resolved yet, such as hurt feelings, misunderstandings that are yet to worked out.

Then again, it could all mean nothing.

obviously you associate your mom, your grandma, and your husband with trust and love.....
possibly you were thinking about the love you have for you mom, grandma, your husband and this duck that one of you possibly saved, and for some reason you were thinking about the environment being either dirt or another oil spill messing up the ecology and your poor duck was all oily and your husband the man figure told you the duck is dead, and you maybe blame the oil companies for this tragedy...

smile
good luck

interesting dream.

Ducks, in chinese cultures, symbolize fidelity, which is why duck is almost always served at chinese weddings.

I find it very interesting that your mother, grandmother, and husband were present in your dream... and that your husband mentioned that the duck was dead.

My guess is that you have fears or suspicions that your husband is unfaithful. Or... maybe you have regrets or guilt about infidelity on your part.
