so much for the fiscally responsible Republicans. Good question. And one that the citizens of the U.S. deserve an answer to. That's incredible amount of money. If it went to cover the tax cuts, then somebody needs to admit it. It certainly didn't go to help the citizens as "real income" has dropped each of the last 5-6 years. Somebody better start getting very concerned, very fast. The U.S. debt cost the tax payers nearly a half a trillion in interest alone in 2006.

mostly paying for tax cuts and the debt itself, you see we can not pay for the debt so we borrow to pay what we owe and we borrow to pay for the interest on that debt. We spend 500 billion more than we take in and we pay 500 billion interest on what we already owe so we must borrow a trillion a year simply to stay in the same spot, then if we cut taxes we must borrow that same amount to cover the difference.

Ohh and by the way when Bush took office the national debt was at 4.5 trillion today it is at 9.5 trillion (actual not revised), the debt has increase by 5 trillion.

With that squandered Billions going to his rich buddies pockets in the form of big corporate tax cuts, we could have bought aspirin for each and every one of the six billion human beings on the planet, giving us all a year's respite from the headaches that follow from listening to Bush speak on a daily basis. But instead, he's just given us more headaches and stiffed us with the bill

Uh, try again. We're $54.6 TRILLION in total debt, according to Treasury reports. Thank the Federal Reserve and the borrow-and-spend Republicrats and Demicans who'd rather line their pockets than actually solve the problems plaguing our country.
