It seems white Americans (and, to some extent, even black Americans) have been screaming bloody murder ever since Affirmative Action policies were implemented in an attempt to offset the cripling effects that legal segregation has had on black Americans and the nation as a whole. From what I understand, the idea behind the opposition to AA is that blacks can get any job and also receive admission to the university of their choice, regardless of their qualifications. Well, my research group recently carried out an interesting experiment to test the amount of bias against whites due to affirmative action hiring, which involved sending out a generous amount of job applications containing identical qualifications but with "fake" names that we considered to be obviously african american, and an equal amount of applications using "normal" names as well. Our findings? Those applications with normal names received nearly 70% more invitations to interviews. What does the general public think?

Affirmative action is unfair and sick, including all of this crap you hear about companies giving preference to women, contracts being given to "women owned businesses," ect.

I imagine that the forthcoming thumbs down will becoming from women themselves, who while claiming to want to be "equal" really want special rights like other groups.

This is interesting. I had no idea what the actual percentages were going to be like. I believe that it is much easier to get a college education today than ever before. The number of community colleges that will accept persons without any type of entrance exam or a show of performance in school has escalated at an enormous rate. As far as work goes, I am a caucasian male that has been searching for a job in a community that I am well known in and I have been searching for months. This is exasperating but I also believe that GOD will open the doors when HE is ready. I hope that you understand what I am saying. GOD is a powerful force and sometimes we need to ask HIM for assistance. I do believe that discrimination still is a major factor in these areas but I also believe in asking for help and stooping to a lower job if necessary. Have a great week and don't give up on your study. This should be useful if the information gets into the right people's hands!

Racism and discrimination against minorities by whites, from the subtle to the brutal, has always been a reality, and still is. The nature of America is to overreact in solving problems and produce overkill.

of course you wouldn't hire an applicant with a name like laquickkasha demetionsha jackson.

btw your experiment would be flawed unless it had an indication of the race of the applicant on the application.

Please, stop playing the race card. In the real world if you're qualified for a job you'll get it.
