i think that this is a controversial question because a low quality in both work and family will impact on the way you view whats more important in life. for example low quality in work = less money to provide for a high quality time with family and low quality time with family = less work which would mean less money again. even though this equation gives priority to high quality time at work what will end up is many specific disadvantages in your expections of having high quality time with your family. if your a parent you will be steretotyped as a bad parent if you work too much and don't give enough time to be with family, if you are single you would be stereotyped as the major scrooge for all seasons. the best way to think about it is working to live not living to work. we all have to survive to live comfortable life. balancing your schedule is good too.

I think for the people who has both, they need to balance everything out. You need to balance your work as well as your family, but, you need to have someone to help you out. Meaning, if you have a partner and kids and the family pet, and everything you need to do with them and all, you all need to pull it together. The better is is at home with everyone helping out, the better it is when you go to work because you do not need to worry if the dog's been walked or the litter's been changed or the food is thawing out or the place been picked up. You are worried about your work. And, when you are satisfied in that way, you are more concentrated on your work and will give out a better performance.
So, it is a combination of both.

quality family time ofcourse. nothing else matters that much. and I hate work. I hate anything that causes me to have to leave my home. If I could stay home all day everyday, that would be fantastic. I'm not a people person and I'm rather lazy although my house is very clean. Sleep and eat are my favorite things to do.

I work to live, I do NOT live to work. Life is too expensive to throw away like that.
