Also, a bass is typically played one note at a time, and chords (a group of notes played together) are often played on a guitar.
Oh, and bass guitars are most often electric also.
Bass Guitar players in bands usually know how to play guitar also.

I'd suggest electric, it plays easier than most guitars. A bass plays lower notes than an electric. (1 or 2 octaves lower, I think) The thick strings on a bass will make it harder on your fingers if you're just starting.

Actually. ther only real difference is that the bass is the first four strings like that on a standard 6. The bass will be easier to learn...but I would still learn the 6 string. : ) After you learn your scales...going backwards to learn bass is a snap. Hope this helps. : )

Bass has 4 strings that are tuned way low and you play the strings one-at-a-time.. Guitar has 6 thin strings and is far more difficult to play because there are multi-string chords to learn, and guitar solo melodies to play.
