I followed the suppliers start method to a T but when I planted them in the pots, only a few straggly ones grew then died. Can I not just plant them directly from the fridge into soil in a small sprouter?

The rest of them might still sprout.

It sounds like you did good and maybe those scraggy ones could have used different soil or light or water too.

here are a couple of business' that grow red maples from seed and they give instructions about germination technique. They are doing close to what you described:

The red ones grown from seed will probably be red a lot of the year but might turn green for a while too.

You can find more info by using the name of your plant and the word "grow" and also try "cultivation". Try using the scientific name for your plant, like "Acer ______ _______"

hold the phone maple seed dont need to be placed in cold storage that throws the seed into shock plant the seed in a small bed in a green house never cold storage maple seeds and dont plant them deep they dont need to be deep and you said they were re *** maple seed they only known way to get a true red *** maple is to graft or but the tree when they are ready the only thing that will come from this seed is a green *** maple been down this road before from a nuirsery woman in the nursery capital of the world tennessee
