NO it is not true. Being civilized has nothing to do with it.
As far as EX'S are concerned, if there are no children involved, they should go their separate ways. Some couples can remain friends and that is fine (for them) but not all people are going to get along with their ex's. The past is just that the PAST.
Leave it there. Forgive and FORGET! Being cordial and polite when the situation calls for it !

That all depends on whether or not the Ex can be civil too, no? Sometimes it's better to have little (for kids) or no contact at all and cut your losses.
If you're uneasy with what this man said, perhaps you suspect he has another reason for being civil with his Ex? If he's a potential partner with you, better confront those thoughts and feelings in a conversation with him before you proceed.

over time i have managed to become friends with most of my ex's, once the old wounds had healed. as for my last ex, the only reason i'm civil with him is for the sake of our daughter. if there were no children involved, i would never speak to him again after what he put me through.

every person is different, and so is every relationship. sometimes things end very badly, and some people are just not able to maintain a friendship with someone who you've had so many bad times with. keeping yourself out of a bad situation is not uncivilized, it's smart.

depends, but usually no, unless an ex couple share kids then they should at least act civil but don't need to be friends. in all other circumstances there isnt any reason to stay friends well maybe unless both actually really want to and keep it as just friends.

No, mostly because it would depend why your ex is your ex. I mean if they beat the crap out of you or did other terrible things than why shoud we remain friends? I mean I don't hate my ex's and if I saw them on the street I would speak and maybe even give a quick friendly hug. But thats about as far as it goes.

I'm civil with my ex for the sake of my kids. But as for friends, I'd rather be friend's with a python, at least pythons are honest about what their intentions are.

Define 'civilized' people. Remember ones perspective is ones reality. ;-)

I wouldn't say I'm friends with my Ex but he is the father of my children. I am polite - not cold, friendly, tolerant, and fair. He listens to stupid people and is arrogant, angry, smart mouthed, non-communicative, unfair, and sends the kids with information.

So I wouldn't say we were friends.

I don't believe that. While it is not necessary to "hate" an ex, most people want to just let go of that relationship and move on with their lives.

It can happen. My ex is my best friend now but it took a long time to get to this point. Took me years to get over the bitterness, resentment and hurt.
