request that they do it. you're the patient and your health is what's more important. doctors have no choice but to comply with your wishes.

I have this condition too and lost my son at 20 weeks (this was how i got my diagnosis) I had no indication before. I had a cerlage with my daughter and she is fine and now have one in this pregnancy too. If you are at risk it is rediculas to say you have to loose 2/3 pregnacies before they will treat it. They are usually fitted at 12/14 weeks before the baby is large enough to put pressure on it. When you start to reach 17 weeks upwards that is the time of danger. If i where you i would not wait. I had to give birth to my son naturally at 20 weeks and it was very traumatic. Dont let them fob you off. This is my second cerclage and there is no way i would let them tell me to wait. Have it done what harm can it do none. You are under for 45 minutes or you can have a spinal, you take it easy for a few days. They scan the baby after the operation to reasure you baby is fine. It is taken out at 36 weeks just with gas and air ( not a pleasureable experience i can tell you) but once that is done you baby is at no risk as it is too far along in gestation for your cervix opening after that to affect the pregnancy in any way. All that will happen will be your baby is ready to arrive into the world. Please if they already know you are high risk and are putting you off get a second opinion or a new OB. Hope somehow this helps you. I know only too well on this condition your fears and stresses. I hope you get the best advice and treatment you need for you and your baby. Dont wait.
P.S. If they are waiting till it shows signs of opening before doing anything there is a chance they can rupture the membrains of the babies sack once they have bulged from the cervix opening. When this happened to me they told me we have never performed it succesfully and sorry nothing can be done. Please dont wait. Its not worth it. I have lived it and it not an experience i would wish on any other mother.

I too had my cervix removed a few years ago, and 2 months pregnant. According to my doctor he will be doing the cerclage around 14 weeks into my pregnancy just to make sure we dont miscarriage or go into early labor. Speak with your doctor and let him know ur very concerned about this and that you and your husband would prefer to have the procedure done. It is your health and very traumativc to lose a baby and knowing that it was the doctor's fault. They may be doctors but they have no rights to tell you to wait... Good luck and Congratulations...

i have only lost one pregnancy, my last pregnancy i had funneling, which is the opening on the birth canal prematurley, i had my son at 30 weeks, i was on bed rest in the hospital for 10 weeks, my sone was in the NICU after he was born for 3 months. i am pregnant again now (also 13 weeks) and everything is going fine, but because i have an incompitent cervix, i am having the cerclage done next week, everything is looking ok now, but my doctor knows what can happen. i think it depends on your doctor if he wants to do it or not i am really nervous but i hope it works, i will go on bed rest again if i have to, but i dont want another one of my babies to go through what my son did, it was hard.
good luck to you!!!

You'll be just fine - you have a great chance of carrying baby full term, just do everything your doc tells you to and it'll help. Don't stress yourself, that's not good at all for you or baby! Relax, luv, and be confident in knowing this is under control. Take care..

I haven't, but I think that you should make your doctors see how worried you are about this, let them know that you would feel far more relaxed if you had this procedure done, which will be better for you and baby.
Please don't let them fob you off.

I have heard some OB's doing that as soon as your so many weeks. Talk to your OB and ask if they will do it. If they won't ask why not. He or she may have valid reasons.
Good luck.
