It is not a good idea because is digestive system is not working properly yet. That is why there are so many allergies in children.

Feeding baby solids does not make the baby sleep better at night. Any doctor can tell you that. It's an old wives tale.
And it is especially not recommended putting cereal in their bottles. Cereal should be fed from a spoon, AFTER the baby turns 4 months old, not before. Younger babies just don't need all those calories yet. Don't rush into solids. If started too soon, the risk for future diabetes and food related allergies increases significantly.

I admit that I do. My mother told me to. I have a 5 week old baby and my mom said she did it with all 4 of her kids. My mother in law said she did it with all 8 of her kids. From when they are 3 weeks old. So when its about midnight and he's not sleeping so great during the day...ill add just a little cereal to his milk. It helps him sleep! I'm not so worried about my sleep. But my little guy has some trouble getting a decent nap. He wakes up thinking he needs that bottle even though he just ate. So when i give that to him...he becomes more full and sleeps for a few hours. and he doesnt spit up as much with the cereal.

My DD was 5 weeks early and when she reached 3.5 months old I started giving her a little bit of cereal in her bottle. Not so she could sleep well at night, but so she would really start taking on calories. Most don't want you to give cereal earlier than 4 months because their little bodies can't digest it right.
If you are going to give it early, just add a little bit to the bottle with formula/breastmilk and make sure you make the hole in the nipple a bit bigger to allow for the thicker mixture.
If you don't use a bottle, you can spoon it into their mouth but it's messy.

I added cereal to my son's bottle at 3 weeks. formula is digested quicker so you will feed them more during the night. if you value sleep add the cereal. I got up about every 4-5 hours to feed my son instead of 2 hours with straight formula. Huge difference.
If your baby is taking more than 32 ounces of formula a day then start feeding them cereal and baby food. (According to my son's pediatrician).
Go with your instinct. If you think the baby is ready for cereal feed them cereal. You won't hurt the baby.

I didn't. Food should be for nutrition, not for forcing the child to sleep longer. None of my 3 children had cereal before 5 months.

I started feeding my baby cereal 3 days before her 4th month birthday. I was hoping it would help her sleep better at night, but it didn't! But she loved the cereal anyway!

No way. I knew it was best for my children's health to wait until they were developmentally ready for solids, which means looking for all the signs of readiness around the middle of the first year. The risks of starting solids too early aren't worth it. Infants are not supposed to sleep through the night. They are supposed to wake frequently to feed. Only babies on TV come home from the hospital and sleep all night.

I did this with my first two. Actually I started them at 6 weeks and to tell you the truth it did not work for me. Maybe that is why my doctor told me not to start my newest one until he was 4 months. Hope I was some help for you.
