"Teaching helped me begin to find out who the hell I am," he said. "I don't know what I did for them, but I know what it did for me."
if you are a¨ people person¨ you´re on the right track. forget what you could teach them, they can get that over the Internet and study it. so whatever you got to teach in no big deal. the big deal of the so called ¨teaching profession ¨ is rather what you can get out of a student. most of the high school students don´t know what the heck they want out life except to make money and change the world, your job is to make them realize of their god given abilities and make them aware that they could make good use of them to change the little corner of their world and at the same time to make good money with it. teach with the same attitude sponge bob flip burgers, but if you´re the whiny kind like squidward, get the hell out of there, this is for your own good and the students´
going back to your question
teaching is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you´re gonna get. ¨

draining, stressful, and teachers are greatly underpaid!
I quit after 2 years.
Teaching is the only job where one person is doing the work of 10 people...Why don't teachers have secretaries? That was my main complaint.
I worked 60 hours a week(except 9 weeks of summer) all year to get paid 25,000 after 5 years of college!!
grrr!

Having the ability to open the minds of others to see things in a new and different way. Teaching is one of the greatest responsibilities we have, whether certified to teach in a classroom or not!

A very rewarding career in which everyday is different. It is also a great challenge. Teaching is definitely not a career for those who wish to get rich; but if you love what you do it is worth it. I honestly love my middle school students. They are smart-mouthed and of coarse they know everything. But once you break the barriers, my sixth graders are some very compassionate individuals.

an adventure. Everyday is different. As someone posted teachers should be paid more to put up with "smartass kids" I'm sorry you feel this way. Have you ever been in a classroom? Have you ever seen the "light" in a child's eye when they grasp the concept? That is why I go to my classroom everyday.

a seriously underpaid position!
I can't believe people actually accept only $25k a year to teach those little smartass kids anything. It should be more like $50k, minimum, to have to put up with all that garbage.

teaching is a great place for sociopaths to inflict their will on others who cannot resist or defend themselves, whether it be by bullying and verbally abusing them, or outright molesting them. Some people never get over their worst teachers.
