An SLA is a Service Level Agreement, an agreement that explicitly defines a level of service that is required under the contract.

A metric is a means of quantifying something so that it's performance can be identified and measured. Metrics are usually used in SLAs to determine if the required levels of service are being met.

Metric is a Unit to measure be it the work / time / qty etc.,

SLA - at a broad level guides Management about the status/completness of the work. However, the fine granualar details is what metrics provide

Service Level Agreements are usually agreed upon with different business units, such as the SAP service must be available to the HR department 99.5% percent of the time. A metric is more generic and usually used for measuring IT performance and sometimes related to bonuses and such.
