Now, i understand that the best time is when she is ovulating however, i know everyone will say that everytime you have unprotected sex there is a chance. Im not looking for a factual answer but all i want to know is what are the odds of concieving while not having sex on her "dates". Is it that significant that you will most likely become pregnant if you do on those days? oppossed to other times?

Yeah, it is true that you can get pregnant on any day of the cycle. BUT!!! It is so rare when it's not in the "window of opportunity."

So your girlfriend's cycles are irregular? How irregular? I'm afraid that there is something that may be going on with her hormones. She may not be ovulating. How long have you been trying? If six months or more, I would say she should chart for a few months. Have her look up ttc & charting or just go to fertilityfriend.com to set up her charts. A doc would like to see those anyway. Now, if she's just like a couple days off here and there, then just keep having fun for a few more months and hopefully it will happen...

But, to make a long answer short, it's not very likely at all that she will get pregnant on her off days. But, I imagine that you guys can't be sure when the on and off days are because she is irregular...

Everyone's cycle is different. There is a myth that woman ovulate 14 days after their period begins...but that is only an AVERAGE and each month can be different. The other thing is that sperm can live inside you for up to 5 days.... so if you are having a shortened cycle one month and you have sex right after your period and you ovulate earlier than day 14 than yes, there is a chance of getting pregnant. The only way to know is to know exactly when you ovulate. There are several ways to know and some are more effective than others. Some can only predict before ovulation happens and some can only predict that is has already happened. The absolute best info I can give you is to go read a book called Taking Charge of your fertility by Toni Weschler. It will help you understand your body and all the myths about it. It will help you time when you are ovulating and the best times to conceive – or not! . It's about knowing your body and knowing when you are fertile or not.
My husband and I tried for 1 year and had no luck..… We tried ovulation predictors , laying with pillows under me for 20 min. everything……the first month that I began using the book I realized that my timing was WRONG!. We got pregnant that very first month and I am now due Feb 2, 2007. You can pick and choose what you do with your info. Good luck and don't listen the all the myths! Even if you don't get into charting and everything....it will help you in so many ways!

I wasn't trying to conceive but here I am 14 weeks pregnant because my periods were irregular. My boyfriend and I had decided, a baby is not the end of the world, but we're not trying now. However were were going on natural rhythm and withdrawal and avoid sex on my "dates".

The thing about irregular periods is that it is just that. Women will either ovulate left right and center or hardly at all.

If she's ovulating too much, the ovulation "symptoms" are always obvious. On then other hand, if it's hardly at all, time to start checking mucus and get a thermometer.

Don't stress about it, just have lots of fun and lots of sex and keep on cumming in her and make her lay there for a good 5 minutes each time.

She can only get pregnant around the time she ovulates. Women are most fertile two to three days before ovulation and 12 to 24 hours after ovulation. Since a man's sperm can live for up to three days in a woman's body, that's a pretty small window!

I would suggest purchasing a basal body thermometer and having her chart her ovulation and periods. It is a chore, but since she has an irregular period, knowing when she is ovulating is your best chance.

Also, here are some interesting statistics, since the chances of conception vary by age:

Odds of getting pregnant in a given month, by age:
* early 20s: up to 25 percent
* late 20s and early 30s: up to 15 percent
* late 30s: up to 10 percent

Number of women who achieve pregnancy within the first year of trying, by age:
* early 20s: 94 percent
* late 20s and early 30s: 70-85 percent
* late 30s: 65-70 percent

Average number of months to conception, by age:
* early 20s: 4-5 months
* late 20s: 5-7 months
* early 30s: 7-10 months
* late 30s: 10-12 months

Good luck!!

Well, first I will suggest to get the Ovulation Predictor test. That is the best idea. With this test both you and her will know when she is ovulating, or about to ovulate. Also, is she has a white kinda like mucus (sounds yuckie) discharge, then she is around ovulation time. Also, sperm can live in the body for up to 5 days. So, if you have sexual intercourse within 5 days of her ovulating, yes you very well have a chance of getting her pregnant. Also, the egg can live in body for about 24 hours. Therefore, you have about 5-6 days that she has a chance of getting pregnant. I wish you all the best of luck!

There is a 5-20% chance of getting pregnant when having sex on the not-so-fertile days. One major reason is that the egg can stay in the fallopian tube and last up to 3 days. Also, the sperm can survive in the woman for 5 days. Therefore, if you had intercourse 4 days before mentration, there is a chance of fertilization.

I have some experience with this... my husband and I conceived when I was menstrating. It is possible to get pregnant any time. The only difference is "how fertile"... not "fertile or not".

Although a woman is most fertile when the egg releases and travels down the fallopian tube, God is always in control!

Is she charting her cycle? The only time to conceive is as early as 6 days before ovulation (but your chances are very, very, very low) until the day of ovulation.

She should invest in a charting program like Taking Charge of your Fertility where she can take her temperature before she rises from bed, notes it in the software and after three months the software will start predicting when she ovulates. It also gives body clues that she can look for to tell her when Ovulation is approaching.

Good luck!

I had irregular periods from the time i started (12). Got pregnant at the age of 18, which was planned and it happened very quickly. I don't think having irregular periods has anything to do with it. Having constant sex does.

Since she does have irregular periods you should try using a fertility monitor, it takes the guess work out of TTC.

It's alot more difficult to get pregnant than you think.
At most you have a 48 hour window.
Normally women ovulate two weeks after they menstruate.
If she watches her discharge it's not that difficult to tell.
Good luck.
