Face value tells everyone that it's because we want to liberate the Iraqi people from a dictatorship government,but it goes much deeper than that.There will be much we will never know about the war.There's always more to it than meets the eye.

Have you ever wondered why former president Bush didn't go ahead and take out Saddam when he had the chance?There was a reason we may never know,but it's there.

The radical Islamic movement is dangerous to all.Their hatred is not just to the west,but anyone who doesn't agree with their movement.Their movement might have at one time had a great message behind it,but no more.The radicals are out of control,and is killing any chance of the rest of the world accepting the Muslim community.They are single handily alienating their region.But maybe that's what they want.To oppress another human being in any way is a great injustice and tyranny.

The original excuse was that Saddam Hussein was harbouring terrorists, had links with al-Qaeda & could supply them with Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD). The two real reasons were the belief that hunting down Saddam would magically make the Middle East a better place (why they thought that is still a mystery) & influence over Iraq's future oil production (plus a few nice chances to earn cash for Halliburton & other large companies which high-up White House officials have links with).

The whole war against terror excuse was complete cr*p & even Donald Rumsfeld has since admitted that Saddam never had links with al-Qaeda (and it wasn't for the want of the White House looking for them!).

For their oil. They claimed they were after weapons of mass destruction, but there were none. They claimed they were after Al Qaeda, but Iraq had no links with Osama Bin Laden. It is simply a matter of oil. The same reason they invaded Afghanistan. You think they invaded Afghanistan for the Al Qaeda, Ha! They were the one's who supported the militant Talibans in order to drive Soviet Union out of Afghanistan. Now that they have an eye on the oil, they have made the Talibans "evil". If you see the film Rambo 1, you will se how the US supported the Mujaheedin against the Soviets, but now they have installed their uppet government run by Karzai. And did you know that Karzai used to work for Unocal, the American oil company??

Because Iraq was not letting the UN weapons inspectors in most of the time, hence all were suspicious of Saddam;

It has long been a country that did not allow US companies to operate within it (this is the main reason);

and because it was an ethnic minority led regime that had been very hard/ruthless against its opponents and rivals, so we thought they would be happy to be liberated of Saddam's harsh & repressive rule.

It was not related to 9/11, other than that the timing gave Bush Jnr the impetus to go and finish what Bush Snr had not finished.

George Bush senior went into Iraq after Iraq invaded Kuwait, he pulled the plug on it after Saddam's army was annihilated, but stopped short of finishing the job so as not to upset the rest of the middle east Muslim countries. (with good cause)
George Bush Junior used 9/11 as the reason to invade Iraq saying they sponsored terrorism and had weapons of mass destruction, later to be found untrue.
But we all know it all was about oil, and if you can get a friendly government in the middle east, then it safe guards your interest.

Nothing to do with 9/11 or WMD or Terrorists

Main reasons
Because Bush assumed it would be a walkover
Lots of lovely oil
To setup a 'client' state as a springboard to later attack Syria and Iran gaining access to yet more oilfields.

iraq supposedly had weapons of mass destruction and was funding the terrorists...saddam was not cooperating with UN investigators regarding the nukes. anyway, reason # 1 turned out to be false and reason # 2 is debatable. the war may have created more terrorists than it stopped. many others (who will post) will share reasons that they believe we went to war in Iraq and there are a number of books on the real reasons - but since you just asked for the basics..there they are.

Donald Rumsfeld and Paul Wolfowitz have had a bee in their bonnet abou Iraq for decades, 9-11 provided them with an excuse to put their violent fantasies into practice. All it took was a lot of lies and misinformation about WMD and al-Queda to Dubya and his cronies and they could barely control their warmongering semi-sexual frenzies. Plus Iraq has underground energy that US SUV's drink like cocaine speedballs. They did not like it one little bit that S Hussein sold his oil for Euros instead of US dollars, "Ghuddam bwah, this is our oil this bahsturd is selling, we need it to pay for our noocleer cojones!"

They went to Iraq so they could silence Saddam so he couldn't spill the beans lest we find out the extent of support we gave him during the Iraq / Iran war such as providing him with chemical weapons. So he had the goods on Bush Sr. and Sonny boy made a point to silence him , that is why you heard little of his testimony at trial .

In one word: Money

If you look throughout history the American economy has always thrived on a War-Time economy. Where the government is employing billions of dollars in private contractors to make weapons and such. This jump-starts the economy and pumps a ton of cash into it... so life is good.

When the war is over we can't find enough jobs for eveyone so the economy fails.... that's when we need to find another war to fight...

For example: Right before WW2 America was in "The Great Depression" and after WW2? Strongest economy in the world again.....

We are losing ground on the Brittish Pound. Inflation is getting rediculous. We need another war to pump money into the economy or eventually the people of america will revolt.
