I basically use the computer to store my digital photos, basic web design, and storing music. I like speed. And suggestions on brand, processor, memory, etc?

if not, get a dell Inspiron 6400 or 1501.

I love my Dell Inspiron laptop. I use it as my only computer, and wanted to be able to do more than just word processing when I purchased it about 2 years ago. Mine has a 17" screen. While it is a little heavier than some (due to the large screen size) I have never had a problem with speed. I also really like Dell's support. They had to replace the keyboard shortly after I got it and came out to my work during the day - I didn't have to find a store. They also recently replaced the screen, also at my work. This was so convenient because I didn't have to wait at home for them, and didn't have to worry about locating a local repair shop. Dell also allows you to report a problem online - which is really fast and has helpful technicians (I think even faster than the phone).
At any rate - I highly recommend a Dell, and especially like my Inspiron.
Good Luck!

Everything else is junk. Macs are the only computers that can run OS X, Linux, and Windows. That means they can run more software than any other compter. They can even run Windows from within OS X.
OS X is best for photos, web design, and music. It's also best for security and ease of use.

Get a Mac. You'll be glad you did.

I'd recommend starting with a desired configuration and then compare prices and support agreements between manufacturers. A good place to find computer configurations is http://www.comprec.com
