Yes, you will lose your documents if you replace it. However, you can install a second, larger hard drive, and then change the pin settins on the original to a slave drive, so that you can access all of your documents on it, as well as your new drive.

Well there are a million choices for upgrading space, but the simple answer is if you have a desktop you can add another hard drive with your old one still installed and in your case you can other copy your data from the old hard drive to the new one or just leave it on the old drive and use the new one for additional space.

Upgrade a hard drive? First time I've heard of that one. Do you mean increasing the memory it has? If you need more memory, you buy another hard drive and put it into one of your expansion bays on your computer. Don't buy on of those external hard drives, that get pluged in via USB port, they are very slow.

If you wish to upgrade the hard drive, check the hard drive connector cable, if it has an extra connector attached to it, you can purchase new hard drive and connect to the connector. this way all your documents and programs will remain with you and you will have extra space.
if the cable does not have a connector then you can change the hard drive for bigger one. this way all the documents will be lost. however, you can back up the documents onto a cd and then copy them back onto the new hard drive.

you could just take it to a reputable pc repair shop or any pc shop and ask them to tranfers all your data onto the new drive that you want to keep it will cost you of course but what the heck better safe than sorry or the other way is to copy all your documents and progs onto dvds and reinstall them onto the new hardrive once you have installed it into your pc, and another way of keeping your documents and whatever is to install the new drive as a slave drive copy what you want to keep onto it and just use the old one for running windows on
