Installing a motherboard is not rocket science. But if your not up to the task I would buy a 90 dollar motherboard and charge you about $25 an hour for the installation with a minimum of 2 hours work.

good question. parts could be anything from £100 to several thousand pounds. labour charge again depends on the technician typically not less than £100 plus delivery.

you need to know what specification you want in your system.
what do you want it to do?
do you want high quality gaming graphics what brand CPU do you want in your motherboard?
what size hard drive or drives? (upto 750GB each current limitations in the store i buy from most)
what RAM do you want how mang GB or part therof?
what type if any DVD or CD reader/writer do you want?
what software do you need if any? or are you going to simply keep your old hard drive and optical (CD/DVD) drives?

so many things to consider when you know what you want then consult a technician or a competent friend to build the system for you.

it is not rocket science to dissasemble an old system and install new compnents. i've been doing it for years as well as custom building my own systems.

all you need is a few simple tools a tool kit can be purchased for a relatively small cost £10 to £20,
you will also need an electrostatic free work area and somewhere to properly earth/ground yourself to discharge any static electricicity that has built up in you.

it is so simple a kid of 5 could do the work to a pretty competent level (though i'd double check there work).

good luck.

for compnents see the store i use when i need cheap high quality compnents. http://www.dabs.com

If the motherboard is going bad, then the cost will depend on what type of motherboard you replace it with. More space as in... hard drive space? Please be more specific.
