Call me unpatriotic but I am sick of hearing about Ford. Why are we not hearing about the architect of Funk, the man who almost single handedly introduced new time signatures to popular music? The man who taught Michael Jackson and Prince how to dance and perform? The author of music that was the basis for rap sampling? The biggest inspiration for many of our current artists? The man with possibly the longest adult music career? 50 years and he can still make the youngest and oldest get down on the good foot? The man was a musical genius, there was nobody like him and there will never be anyone who can measure up to him.

I say that James Brown did so much for us, we should have a national holiday for him.

Just think about how your feel when you hear the song "I feel good" or "Get up". It is basic uncomplicated joy, the best human emotion there is.

James Brown gave that feeling to so many people from so many different backgrounds for so many years. Maybe more than any other artist. I think he was more than just an artist.

So then you mean 'when' not 'where'. At least Brown was shown dead in his casket on the cover of the NY Post, Ford was not. Is that fair?

Still, youre cute.... lets go mourn together in a motel 6....

Well... I loved James Brown... LOVED him... LO-O-O-O-OVED him! But.... My brotha had too many run-ins wit' the law to get that kinda endorsement form the government, for one thing. I mean... They're not gonna have that kinda send off for a brotha that discharged weapons at his wife (or his car), had multiple drug arrests (James... What were you thinkin'?), and was involved in police pursuits. Not to mention a few of the other obvious variables (Remember what Kanye said about the idiot in the White House. Let's bring Clinton back! At least he could play the sax a bit! We should always have a president who can get into some music! Who do you think Bush grooves on? I mean... He may occasionally LISTEN to music, but I'm talkin' about "gittin' ya GROOVE on! Bush ain't got no groove, no soul and, thus, no compassion.)

:-)

R.I.P., James Brown... You were a genius, and a giant in the world of music (and, occasionally, in society). There'll never be another. Love ya...

What a lovely thought, lets honor only those people who bring light and love into our lives. Brown may have had his personal demons, but for all his years and his troubles, he brought joy to all who heard him, and really, what nicer thing could be said of you after one has passed on. In years to come, James Brown will be heard, but Gerald Ford, and his ilk, will be footnotes in history, just as the names of most of the Caesars are today.

James Brown deserves his due but the country just can't afford a holiday for everyone who deserves it . However that needn't lesson our respect and admiration for a man who contributed so much to the music and entertainment industry . Sad to see him go myself , he deserves a place in the music hall of fame for sure.

Ford was the president and James Brown was a singer that is why the goverment will not declare James Brown day.

No musician deserves that kind of attention. Especially one with so many personal demons. National days of mourning are reserved for individuals who served our entire country in some capacity...not one particular genre of music, or poetry or art or dance or film or whatever.

OKAY Whatever.........Comeon now he was just a singer. I mean if he really did something good for the world, then yes i would say give him a day but music was here before him and music is still here now that he is gone so i really don't think he done anything major...really
