The problem with drilling in Alaska is that first off it is tar sands. A very difficult and resource intensive method is needed to extract what little oil is there which is not overly economically viable. Technically you are not drilling for oil rather using a high purity de-mineralized water to flush the land. This actually results in a lot of water and land pollution resulting the the land not being viable for any agricultural, mining or really any other industry for an undetermined portion of time. (also you will either need to utilize Canadian pipelines which are heavily taxed in order to transport the oil as the northern passage is still not a viable shipping route)
Secondly, the proposed oil field sits right in the corner of a UN sanctioned animal reserve. Not that anybody has every given a crap about that sort of thing, however it is a natural reserve grizzly bears and caribou both of which are considered endangered species.

Drilling for oil in Alaska has nothing to do with the price of gas at the pump! Alaska doesn't have much oil at all, relatively speaking. Seeing as there isn't enough there to supply just the U.S. demand for oil in one year, I don't see how it makes any difference. The only reason they want to drill there is so American corporations can capitalize on the high price of gas right now. DUH! Yeah, let's trash the wilderness there so a few multi-billionaires can get richer. It's funny to me, tho' it should be sickening instead of amusing, how 'conservatives' will fight to their last drop of blood for the right for the rich to get richer. Go figure. It doesn't make sense to me. Drilling for oil in Alaska to solve our gas price woes is like rowing a boat with a rope.

Liberals are agents of the right wing; that's why they're called Limousine Liberals. All the looting parasites in power hate and fear all real Americans.
Those rich maggots who pretend to be Liberals cut off our self-sufficiency in cheap oil so that their fraternity brothers who own the oil company can gouge us on OPEC prices. Liberals are bossy snobs, so people have no excuse for believing the charade that they are opposed to the conservative Piggies Who Go to Market. Reserved lands are really about hoarding to create an artificial shortage, high prices, and huge unreported profits.

Why did republicans vote against drilling in ANWAR? Can you explain that, or are you even aware? And tell me, do you really think the price of gas will drop that much even IF we tap ANWAR? You must be kidding yourself if you believe that. And don't worry about 5$ a gallon gas, if Bush bombs Iran we will be paying much more for gas than that.

They will let it soar to $5.00/gallon and then call in oil company executives for another round of mindless finger pointing, base-pleasing cheap photo ops. They will even tack on more taxes to drive the price higher. They will do everything but allow the oil companies to do what they do best. Namely, drill for more oil. And by the way, drilling operations today are much more safer and cleaner, they are not "raping" the environment as some of these liberals claim.

Obviously this will not happen in this Congress, but if gasoline goes to $5, who knows, sentiment may change sharply as unemployment sharply raises. And people, let's stop the bs about raping the environment, you know it's not true. The plan to drill in Alaska will have minimal impact - by design.

They will let it soar even higher, they want it higher, for 2 major reasons.
1. They don't understand the law of supply and demand - they think that if the price rises (due to tight supplies), that they can blame the oil companies (they will say that the oil company profits are hurting the working man).
2. They want to decrease oil consumption for environmental reasons.
But they need to pick 1 or 2 above since they don't look too smart by saying they want oil prices to rise in order to lower consumption and then saying that the oil companies are hurting the little guy by raising prices.
Oh and I would love to see Liberal entertainers lead by example and drive small cars, get rid of their yachts and fly commercial, but we know that isn't going to happen.

Alex, Alex, Alex..., Republicans HAD control of the House/Senate. They pretty much did what they wanted. The only reason that it didn't happen was, because they didn't have the necessary votes within their own party to make it happen. It has to make even you wonder, "Why?".
