Betta Splendens, the most abused fish in the hobby...Please DO NOT put this beautiful fish in a cup or bowl or vase. I keep a betta in all my tanks, even the large ones, and they thrive, and play with my other fish. In fact, in large aquaria, I have heard of people keeping 2 males, and getting beautiful colorations and impressive gill displays, but no real fighting. Betta's, while aggressive to their own kind, are no longer being bred for fighting, but for coloration and fins, so their aggression is diminishing. If you really want to see something impressive, put a male and female in a 10 gallon, and you will get to see the male build a bubblenest for his girl. They really are an amazing fish!!

betta fish. also known as siamese FIGHTING fish. if you put a male and a male together, the will fight until one dies. DO NOT put them together. although, their nature wasn't to fight, but in indochina, they people make the poor fishies fight and bet on them. :[ how sad.
