No, it is false.
The reason for this error is that some people assume that, since the Bible states that Eve was made from one of Adam's ribs, then men must be missing one.
However:
1) if so then men would be missing a rib from only one side of the body
2) somatic changes are not inherited
3) just go ahead and count a few for yourself

No, it's not true. Men and women have the same number of ribs (24, or 12 pairs), but the lowest two pairs are smaller in women than in men. So sometimes an external examination might not find one of those pairs, and it would look like women had fewer ribs, when they really don't.

I'm sure there will be responses soon from people who have never taken an anatomy class, haven't bothered to do any research, but are certain that women have one fewer rib because of the rib used to create Eve. Because I don't feel like checking this question every few minutes until they show up, I'll go ahead and answer them now.

Even if you accept the Genesis story as the absolute, literal truth, it still wouldn't imply that modern women should have fewer ribs. Adam's rib was removed from his body surgically, but his genes weren't altered. His children would have been born with a full set of ribs. If you had an arm amputated, you wouldn't be surprised when your children were born with arms, would you?

It's FALSE,because
my biology teacher says the following:
"Every Man and woman has 12 ribs on each
side making a complete number of 24 ribs in the rib cage."So think about what your saying and normally I really notall that interested in Biology but I try to get good grades for the heck of it.

I know, the problem started when Eva was hungry one day (ran out of apples) and didn't had anything to eat so she sliced a rib out of Adam rib cage and BBQ with home made charcoal and southern style BBQ sauce, that's why men have only 9 ribs lol..☺

The fact this myth still exists always surprises me. All you have to do is count your ribs and have a member of the opposite sex count theirs. Or just watch a few episodes of CSI where they talk about how they can tell, which sex a skeleton is. Notice they have to do measurements on the pelvis or skull, but never just count ribs?

Cases of abnormal development, with some
people having more or fewer than the normal
number of ribs are always possible, but very rare.
Men and women have the same number of pairs of
ribs, as anyone can see from checking skeletons
or X-rays.

I would say untrue but if true it might be why they thought that Eve was created from Adam's rib. If false, again that is probably the origin of the myth
