The "Boxing Day Test Match" is a traditional cricket Test match hosted in Australia involving Australian cricket team and the opposition national team touring Australia that summer.
In 1950 the first ever Australian Boxing Day Test Match was hosted at the Melbourne Cricket Ground against England and 60,486 cricket fans flooded to see Australia win a thriller by just 28 runs.
1952 saw the second ever Australian Boxing Day Test Match hosted at the Melbourne Cricket Ground this time against South Africa.
It wasn't until 1968 that another International Test Match was scheduled on Boxing Day at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Periodically the Australian Cricket Team played on Boxing Day in other nations, It wasn't until 1980 that the Melbourne Cricket Ground and the Australian Cricket Team secured the 26th December Boxing Day on the International Cricket calender for a Test Match.
