I cant say i know for sure but i would think you need an agent with connections to go and promote it for you. As an unknown author you are not going to have the pull to get meetings with the kind of people who could get your book turned into a movie. Often times people arent even allowed to look at unsolicited material because of possible copyright issues and the possibility of getting sued. You need someone to go out and network on your behalf someone with the connections to get the right people into meetings.
