He might just be a big baby! My sister's daughter weighed 27 lbs at 6 months (which is huge) and she is perfectly healthy and even pretty slim now! BUT my friend had a daughter who weighed about the same at 6 months and she was later diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was about 5, she is nearly 8 now. She slimed out A LOT, but there was still a problem and doctor told her parents she was born with it.

To the jerk who says it's at the hands of the feeder. Some babies do have problems and health complications. For you to blame it on the parents without regard for possible complications is ignorant and rude. Also, some babies are large, some are small and they eat the same! My daughter eats LESS than my friend's son and my daughter is bigger. She isn't over weight, she only weighs 23 lbs at 15 months. It's her appetite compared to his! Get over yourself!

My first daughter was overweight the first year of her life. She ate very little but frequently (formula). I even had a pediatrician that wanted me to put her on a diet when she was two months. Chunky babies run in my family so I was like heck no! By the time my first daughter reached after 1 year old, she pretty much "stretched out" by growing taller and her chunkiness started going away. She is 6 now and skinny. As for my second daughter (breastfed) she ate more than my first child and was chunky as well. But she also streatched out after one year and she is 2 now and skinny. I would advise you to not go by the "standard age" of the baby, but go by the height. Is the weight commesurate with the height? and go from there. If you are really concerned, then consult your pediatrician about what to do. As long as you are not feeding your baby unhealthy foods and junk and crazy things that a baby has no business eating, then I am sure that all is well. Good luck to you and your baby!

How tall is your baby? Is his/her weight proportionate to his/her height? My 6 months old weighs as much as a one year old, but he's really tall, too, and healthy as can be, and the doctor is not concerned at all.

Why don't you ask your doc to send your baby for more tests? And if you're concerned about dehydration, keep giving the baby water and diluted juices - yes, it's ok to give water, but not instead - IN ADDITION to breastmilk/formula.

I would definitely take the baby to the doc's office and wouldn't leave until I got the answer.

As I parent, I would be concerned. My daughter is seven months old and she takes in 5 oz. every 4 hours and she was preterm. She's not on the chart yet for a weight. So, your son's intake doesn't seem like it's too much. Since they couldn't find anything wrong, I would get a second opinion.

Speak to your Paediatrician! For one thing, a baby that was diagnosed as "dehydrated", is not necessarily laking liquid. If your child is a "big boy", it is time now for you to start feeding him "food"! A little cereal, fruit, soft boiled egg, applesauce, etc. A child become "over weight" at the Hands of His Feeder! and that is You, my dear mommy! Go to Google.com and search for "new born babies",healthy eating. I suggest Google, as it has a host of medical sites. Please remember this, do Not ask Medical Questions on this site, the answers that you receive could be life threatening. Only ask a qualified doctor, or go the a library and look it up. Hope I helped you out, and start giving your baby some "juice" and some "water", in between his regular feedings. Remember to sterilize the water, if your taking it from the tap. The juice should be "apple" to start out with. Good Luck and Happy New Year.

Bring it up to his doctor. If he's dehydrating, he's not getting enough fluid, try giving him some water or juice instead of formula/breastmilk, he's old enough for that.

3 pounds in 3 days seems excessive, even for a growth spurt. I'd say take him in and get him tested for things like thyroid and diabetes.

it sounds like it. I was watching a special on tv last night about a 12 month old boy who was overweight. Turns out he had a thyroid problem. I would take the baby to the doctor if I were you just to make sure nothing is wrong
