Um....that was almost 30 years ago.

What happened to the Oilers? They used to score 400+ goals each season. Now they score between 200 and 260.

Just sorta wondering.

so i can say what is going on with the Ottawa Senators, back in the 1920's they won 4 Stanley Cup's when the NHL started in the 1917-18 season, 1920, 1921, 1923, 1927 then they folded 1934.
it doesn't matter what your team has done in the past the NHL is faster today with the new rules and the Flyers where a good team last year and didn't think about getting a little faster and they did nothing in the off season Even after the Sabres really gave it to them and there paying the price for there mistakes on not doing anything in the off-season.

The Flyers fell in love with Bobby Clarke and while he's not the worst GM (Tampa Bay, Panthers) he did give alot of long-term contracts out before the "new NHL". Darien Hatcher accounts for a healthy sum and he just never adapted to the new pace, he's more or less a waste of space in my opinion, they should try to send him down like the Pens tried with LeClair. Forsberg, who is still the top overall player in the game when healthy, is rarely healthy and the rest of thier top line consists of Gagne, who is not nearly as good with out Peter getting him the puck, and Knuble, who is a 2nd or 3rd line winger on pretty much any other team. When Desjardins retired, they lost thier best defenceman. They are weak on D and they haven't scouted a decent goalie until Antero Niitymaki and outside of international competition, he has yet to really grab the reigns of a team. They'll get better, but Clarke fell apart getting Lindros and I never fely like he recovered from it.

The Flayers are tryin to play old hockey dump and bump with a neutral zone trap and the problem with that is the way the rules are set up now the cross ice pass with a simi fast player will break down the trap and with the dump and bump there dumping but not getting enough pressure to get the puck back they need to go young and speedy in the near feature to do anything

The Flyers will be back. They have a bunch of really good young players in Jeff Carter, Joni Pitkanan an Mike Richards. They will be a playoff team next year, if they get that defense of there's straightened out.

the defense is slow.esche is overated.they should have kept forsberg instead of trading him for lindros.they also drafted mike ricci two spots before the pens took jaromir jagr.bob clarke spent too much time reliving the glory days of the broad street bullies.97 should have been the wake up call speed kills.and i am a RANGERS fan and loving every minute of the flyers losing

You can blame the "new" NHL for rendering the Flyers a mediocore hockey team. The current squad has too many slow-footed players who cannot keep up with the speed that is being played today. Also, the Flyers seriously need a strong goalie in nets.

They have a horrible defense. It's a miracle they made the playoffs last year. I'm a huge Pens fan and it's always fun to watch the Flyers get crushed.

That chump GM Clarke really messed that team up. Thank God he got the axe (he did get axed, but was given the choice of stepping down to save face).
Now they have to rebuild with youth and try to buy out some of the cap players who are not playing! It will take a few years, but they will be back.

They haven't moved with the times very well under Bobby Clarke. He has acknowledged as much by stepping aside.
