I go to a clinic. You NEVER get to talk to someone there. You leave a message and hope they call back before you die.

When I call at my HMO there is always a Nurse who picks up within a ring or two. Depending on what I am asking (like renew a prescription or make an appointment or ask about a lab result) the nurse may handle it or will arrange for the doctor to call back after he is done with the patient he is seeing now.

When you call the first thing the phone system says is "If this is a life threatening emergency hang up and call 911" so you are not hanging on there while your blood is draining out from an injury.

On average how long should you be put on hold when you want to talk to your Doctor. It is usually 30, minutes for him to come to the phone. Which in my opinion is way too long and the receptionist should be able to tell you that he is busy and if you want to call back so as not to be on the line until he finishes as to what he is doing.

I hate when there is no Music, at least with the Music you can sing along. For me it has been 25 mins as the longest, with Music though.

I rarely need to get prescripttions called in, but when I do its been 2 minutes or less. I'm sure it can get crazy on some occassions, but I have never had to wait long.
