Hi there, I use Spybot, it's very good.

Look at your options on the left side of the screen. there should be one to update, click that and then you will be taken to the update screen.

look at this screen shot:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Spybot.png

See the update button on the left?

On the right click, search for updates, and that will list all updates it finds in the area below. Tick all of them and then click download updates, that will download and install them all automatically. Now you should be able to perform a scan and remove spyware.

Ideally you should update before you scan always, so that you can be sure you are scanning with the most up to date definitions to help protect your computer.

I was describing that from the top of my head so I hope that made sense. Email me if you need further help.

Ok I will try to give you step by step help.

Open Spybot

Click on Search for Updates. It will connect to the server to check if any updates are available. If you have a firewall make sure it has permission to access the internet. Put a check next to all available updates. Then at the top click Download updates.

On the left click on Immunize. If you have anything to immunize click on Immunize at the top.

Next click on Search and Destroy. Again top left. A blank white window will appear. Now click on Check for Problems. Let it do it's thing. If it finds any problems it will list them. Put a check next to all of them. Now click on Fix Selected Problems or something like that.

Can't recall the installation process precisely, but on the face of the window you're looking at there is a button with "Check for Updates". Click this and it should take itself online to hunt these down. Then you'll be shown a list so you can pick and choose. Just take them all, it'll download and update itself, then when it's done you can click the "check for problems" button.

Hope that helps.

Take the updates....integrated...the manual one means you will have to chose which updates you wish to include...spybot is really good but read the blurb and archive any changes so if you lose something you can put it back!

follow darkstar's advice, anita; if you still have problems, ask again.
someone will help, either here or by email or instant messenger

using a computer involves a steep learning curve and at the beginning it is very confusing; at least you had the guts to ask for help and not blunder about as I did because I thought I knew it all.
take care..
