It seems to me that if you are going to raise the age of when you can buy tobacco it would also be logical to raise the age when you can have sexual intercourse.

I agree it should be changed to all the same age, I actually think it should be raised to 18 for you to be able to do anything like drinking, smoking, sex and even driving a car. This is the age you are supposed to be an adult, it would also make things less confusing.As a 16 year old you are still a child and need your parents permission to get married if you wanted to.

Tbh, i don't think raising the age of consent is going to change anything. If the age of consent was 20, that wouldn't stop people having sexual intercourse at like 16 would it?
The good thing about changing the age about buying tobacco is, shops can enforce this law.

I was mature enough at 16 to make that decision. I also happened to marry the only man I've ever had sex with. I got married at 18 and I am now 21. I don't regret any of these decisions b/c I am happy where I'm at today. So no, the age of consent should not be changed.

Smoking in my opinion is a filthy habit and should be banned. Sex on the other hand if consensual can be a wonder full experience which can cement a relationship and can lead to a birth of new life. Saying that there are risks with STDs (Aids) and i believe they should teach the value of marriage and respect of yourself and others not just the physical/ biological aspects. The age is a basic barrier to protect the vulnerable from abuse just because someone is pubescent doesn't mean there are emotionally mature to truly consent.

Then you'ld have to raise the age of marrage as you can get married at 16 or 17 with parents permission. I can't see why they'ld really have to smoking and sex isn't related. In northern Ireland the age of consent is 17.

Why? They are not related what so ever!
And the age of consent laws differ vastly from state to state: In California it's 18; in New Mexico it's 12; in Texas it's 17.

LOL I don't smoke but being 15 myself and all and having some friends who smoke... I think the law is stupid as they'll still be able to smoke with or without the laws consent!!!
And what the heck is wrong with the Age of Consent???

It wont make a jot of difference. underage sex is happening now, so if you raise the age of consent it just means more people are ahving sex underage. FYI (if you're interested at all) the legal age in Russia is even worse. It's 14. (I dont know what age they can smoke!)

no, smoking is a dirty habit, raising the age to buy fags will make it slightly harder to smoke, whereas having sex is a joyous & usually free thing to do with consenting adults, raising the age of concent wont stop younger people doing it. so there is no point.

18 is a reasonable age. Why would you think differently. I have no problem to lower the alcohol drinking age to 19.
