Someone who lived in a cave thousands of years ago. Some believe they are extinct, but most think they interbred with the modern day people. Neanderthals look like burly men, they had a low brow, a lot of hair, thick bottom lips, and just generally rather grumpy looking.

A Neanderthal is the step in human evolotion that occured just before what we are today, homo-sapiens. The are named after the Neander valley where their remains were found. Recently some scientests are beginning to believe that Neanders and humans today are very closely related. So close infact that some have theorys that there are Neanterthals living today they just blend in well due to close similarities.

The Neanderthals were a species of human, pretty similar to us. they were a lot tougher than us, but after the end of the ice age they couldn't adapt to the new climate and they died out. Despite their supposed primitiveness, they were actually quite thoughtful: their technology was as good as Homo sapiens technology of the time, and they buried their dead with signs of affection, such as leaving flowers in the grave.
