Gerald Ford died last week. His funeral is today, and today is an official national day of mourning. Federal government offices are closed, including the Postal Service.
Local school districts decide for themselves whether school will be closed.

Gerald R Ford died Dec. 26th, 2006 (not yesterday).

I don't know what Bush said was going to happen from now on. I don't know what you mean.

It is an Official Day of Mourning in honor of President Ford. Only Federal offices are closed- state and local offices are open.
Didn't you just get back from a Christmas/Holiday break? Isn't there a Federal Holiday on Jan. 15th?

One reason to be in school is to watch the funeral with your classmates and discuss the life of President Ford. It's a learning experience. And, you are witnessing history.

It was President Gerald R. Ford (our 38th president) who recently died. The current U.S. President... President George W. Bush made several profound and positive comments about the passing of President Ford. Primarily how he was a great healer for our Country and how he led America FORWARD. Not sure why public schools were not provided a day off to honour the passing of a United States President.
