For some, the theory is that the investment of one life destroyed may save the lives of others. Think about it for a moment. Maybe there are some people on your "better dead" list that are still breathing because of the threat of the death penalty.

Using the "pro-life" buzzword just means that you are trying to do what you think might get the most votes. Didn't work too well this past November, did it?

And please, stop thinking this is a Dem vs Repub issue. There are diverse opinions on both sides.

Part of the problem is that people do not know the facts about the death penalty, and rush to revenge instead. Just because we oppose the death penalty does not mean we condone or excuse brutal acts by depraved individuals. This is an issue that should be explored using common sense based on the facts. .

Here are some of the facts that Republican and Democrats need to know-

The death penalty is not a deterrent. Homicide rates are higher in states that have the death than in states which do not have it. Most people who commit murder do not think they will be caught (if they think at all.)

The death penalty system costs much more than a system that does not have the death penalty. Much of these extra costs come way before the appeals begin. This money ought to be spent on crime prevention methods of proven value- including more and better trained police, and more sophisticated police methods and for victims services which are always underfunded.

Over 120 people on death rows have been released with evidence of their innocence. In the majority of these cases, the evidence was not DNA, which is not often available. More often, the problem is one of mistaken eyewitnesses. After an execution, the case is closed. If the wrong person was executed the real killer is still out there.

The death penalty is racially biased, but not in the way you may think. A defendent is twice as likely to face the death penalty if the victim was white than if the victim was non white.

More and more states have life without parole on the books. It means what it says and is no picnic to be locked up for 23 of 24 hours a day, with no hope of anything else.

The death penalty can be very hard on the families of murder victims. As the process goes on they are forced to relive their ordeal in the courts and in the media. Life without parole is sure and swift and rarely appealed.

If you think innocent babies and Hard core murderer's are in the same boat perhaps. Although you might want to consider Republicans range from conservatives to moderates. I support a pro-life and death penalty agenda. Although the liberal pro choice is a bit much for me. You want an abortion you pay not my taxes.

I'm a Republican who's Pro-Choice to a point (no late term murders) and I'm anti Death Penalty because of the way the liberals insist on carrying it out, like putting a favored pet to sleep after a long illness. How can that be a deterrant to anyone else committing a capital offense?

There goes your theory, FLUSH!

The children are innocent. They never killed anyone. Abortion is punishing the innocent and being anti-death penalty is a way of trying to protect the guilty.

The answer is that policians, both Rs and Ds, tell voters what they want to hear, not what should be told.
The current policy of the US is to expand the choices for women and at the same time appear to be tough on crime.
In other words, politicans are hypocrites of the highest order.

How can the democrats claim to be pro rights when they insist on letting criminals back out on the streets to violate our rights?

How can the democrats claim to be democrats when they don't believe in supporting the popular vote on the death penalty?

How can you say you are pro-choice while supporting the death of innocent babies, yet protesting against the death of people who have been convicted of committing the most heinous crimes?
