THE ABOVE QUESTION IS INCORRECT the post office also provides free package as long as you mail it priority or express. mail wich takes a 2 to 3 day delivery in the us. and they will do FREE PARCEL PICKUP TO YOUR DOOR. if you request it.
now, if you mail a package the cheaper way (parcel post) it could take weeks to get to your destination. but what ever you do, I'd recomend you deliver it using delivery comfirmation, that way you can always check how your packeage is moving and when exactly it was delivered.

DHL will do pickups and provide cartons for packing. Post office, you queue up, and buy cartons. Delivery generally slower.
The other answer is equally incorrect. Parcel post takes less than a week. If British Mail is doing pickups and providing boxes, they are moving out of their traditional business model where everything is done at their post office. This is the trend nowadays where Post Office are now 3rd party reseller of DHL, UPS, TNT, Fedex. I am providing a generic means of differentiation.
