GB= 1000MB At least according to Hard drive manufacturers. Windows sees data the way DOS used to (in multiples of 8). So it's 1024 in Windows.
It is a metric measurement.
Actually, GigaBytes also = 1000000KB and 1000000000B
Kilo = thousand
Mega=Million
Giga=Billion
Tera=Trillion

1 gigabyte = 1024 megabytes
Memory, for the most part, works on a bianary system. Thus you see (rarely, now) 64 mb, (100 in bianary) 128 (10,000,000 in bianary), 512, and 1024 ( 1 gigabyte). Each number is a number that can be easily represented in bianaray, using only a 1 in the first digit followed by zeros.
